The West Virginia Health Care for All Coalition was created in the summer of 2019 to address the health care needs of everyday West Virginians by suggesting proactive policy prescriptions in the state and putting the power for positive reform into the hands of the citizens.
In 2018, health care ranked as the number one issue for voters in exit polls. West Virginia leads the nation in rates of diabetes, and ranks in the top 10 for deaths from heart disease, cancer, lower respiratory disease, and others. In that year, a number of organizations came together to create the first WV Citizens Health Agenda--an outline of positive policies that could address access to affordable health care for all West Virginians.
Through a grant from the RX Foundation, West Virginians for Affordable Health Care, West Virginia Citizen Education Fund, and the West Virginia Center and Policy have been able to grow the WV Citizens Health Agenda for the future. It is with this generous funding that we are building power by growing health care advocates in the state so that we can continue to work on a health agenda by the people and for the people.
